SATAN ISN’T REAL.

For those of you who are new to Satanism or aren’t versed in our beliefs, this will probably come as a surprise to many of you. For the most part, modern day Satanists don’t believe in Satan, God, ghosts, witchcraft or anything supernatural. It may also come as a shock to learn that a lot of the other preconceived notions about Satanists aren’t accurate either. While many of us may fit the aesthetic and behavioral stereotypes presented by society, as Satanists we value and strive for truth, science, religious plurality, freedom from injustice and persecution, self-determinism as well as the care of our friends, families, communities, and fellow humans.

Recently, I’ve heard and seen comments such as “this individual or politician is Satan” and “this political party or like-minded group is possessed by the Devil.” Comments such as these are not only divisive and senseless but are ignorant to our own free-thinking ability as humans. We come across these types of faith-centered comments across our society every day, whether it be the sports player saying “God” is responsible for their victory despite the practice and preparation by the team and its coaches or saying it was a “miracle” that someone’s life was saved from an injury or illness while ignorant of the educated actions and decisions by the medical staff. These types of comments deny the common sense realization that we humans, through skill, education, knowledge, effort and action, are responsible for the successes as well as the failures in our lives.

Which brings us to another, even deeper question: If so-called “higher powers” aren’t responsible for the good and evil that we see in the world, then what is? The truth – and the inspiration for the title of this blog – is that almost all of human misery and suffering is caused not by divine intervention, spiritual possession or demonic forces, but our own actions and decisions, wither individually or as a group. The few exceptions to this are things such as natural disasters and the indiscriminate illnesses and maladies that are the result of living in a world not governed by a divine plan but by science, physics and randomness.

Make no mistake: GOD IS PEOPLE, TOO! But we’re not here to give credit for the good actions of people to a false deity, whose unprovable existence has directly resulted in incalculable harm to innocent people throughout the ages nor the institutions that have encouraged, supported and carried out this harm.

This blog will focus on seeking the TRUTH, whether it be the truth about Satanism, science, equality as well as the truth of our own human condition. We will approach this from the position that we are a fallible species that is responsible for its own actions and the consequences of those actions. If there is truly evil in this world, and individuals want to argue that Satan is the cause, then we stand firmly by our belief that SATAN IS PEOPLE.
